Shamrock Shorthorns
The Dwyer family have been breeding Shorthorn Cattle since the 1960’s. Shamrock Shorthorn Stud was started in 2004 to complement the existing commercial herd.
Registered cows from the Clargo and Gumble herds were purchased along with the classification of cows as SFA from the commercial herd. The most noteworthy of the early sires was Lone Pine Regmont S106, a magnificent soft roan son of HS Rolex, who left a legacy of females with the maternal traits that the Shorthorns are renowned for. The stud has expanded in recent years by attrition and with the purchase of females from Sprys Shorthorns and currently comprises around 70 registered cows along with 140 commercial females. The most influential sire used during this time of expansion was Eden Park Wagman Z010, another very correct high performance sire who left his mark on the females in the herd (Sires currently in use can be seen at Sires & Semen).Shamrock Shorthorns are run on the family farms “Tipperary”, “Ballingowrie” and “Foxdown” located midway between Yass and Boorowa in the Southern Tablelands of NSW. The enterprise is run by Pat and Sue Dwyer with their sons Sean, Chris and Nicholas.
